I’m a man of many hobbies. That’s how I got into photography and video. My obsession for the past few years has been fly fishing however. Growing up I’d visit my grandpa in Salida, Colorado. Herb, as my grandma would call him would take me fishing and to see the local hatchery. So many fond memories watching the silver bodies of trout flash and boil the water’s surface after tossing in pellets.
On the river I’d watch him effortlessly cast and throw his flies on the Arkansas with such precision it seemed unfair. I couldn’t even fathom how he did it at that age… Trout would hit them with such force the water would pop. I had always been fascinated by fly fishing, the art of the cast just seemed so zen but it eluded me for many years. I never had time to go fish. That all changed in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, suddenly I found myself with tons of time. Thank god we befriended our neighbors Amy and Addison, they were our COVID couple and collectively we were able to stay sane during one of the strangest times I’ve ever experienced.
Addison had just gotten into the sport, and one day he asked if I wanted to go to Deckers with him. That was the beginning of the end. I’ve since shared the sport with Katelyn and my brother. Here’s to many more days unwinding on the river!
